Frequently Asked Questions
At the Chamber we hear a lot of the same questions over and over again. To save
you some time, we have compiled a list of those questions here. If your question
isn’t answered here visit our Contact Page to send an email to the Chamber.
What is the Chamber of Commerce?
Simply put, the Chamber of Commerce is an organization comprised of volunteer
businesses, organizations, and individuals who join together to support and
promote business. The Chamber is a 501(c)(6) organization and is not part of the
local, state, or federal government. It is funded through membership dues and
non-dues revenues such as sponsorships, donations, fundraisers, and sales of
products and services.
What exactly does the Chamber do?
The Chamber does a variety of things. First and foremost, we work for the
success of our members by promoting their businesses, providing networking
opportunities, workshops, seminars, legislative information and advocacy, and
providing referrals to their businesses. The Chamber also strives to foster a
positive, safe community and works with local government organizations to
make the community a better place to work, live, and play.
Can you tell me what the best company for _________ is?
The Chamber does not function as a critic or ratings expert. We promote all our
members equally and will gladly provide you with a list of all of our members in
a given specialty.
Can I report a business to you for wrongdoing?
The Chamber is not a watchdog agency. We do not have the ability to file a
complaint or take any action against a business in the community. Your
complaints are best handled by a better business or governing organization that
can address your issue.
I want to start a business. Can you help me?
Of course we can help. As a member of the Chamber, you will be connected to
hundreds of business owners just like you. It is an invaluable network of people
and com/panies that can provide you the support you need as a new business owner.
Throughout the year the Chamber offers workshops and seminars designed to help
your business succeed. These workshops are often discounted or free for members.
The Chamber can also help you promote your business by providing you with
support for a Grand Opening Ceremony and/or Ribbon Cutting.
What we can’t do is offer any legal advice or financing for your business.
Do you know if a business is licensed in Hesperia?
We do not have business licensing information on file at the Chamber. We can
only tell you if the business is a member of the Chamber. You can contact the
City of Hesperia’s Business Licensing Department to find out if a business
exists and/or is licensed to do business in Hesperia. Some web-based businesses
and independent consultants are not required to obtain a business license. For
more information, you need to contact the City of Hesperia.
